Tinago Falls

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

A beautiful hidden waterfall at northern Mindanao

Iligan is well known as the "City of majestic waterfall".

One of the most popular is Maria Cristina falls that supplies electricity thru a hydroelectric power source.

Form Iligan city there are lots of public transport vehicles like bus, jeepney, and multi-cab via Linamon, fare rates are 70-80 pesos.

For those who are new to the place, if you choose public transport, it is much better to sit at the front, for you to be able to see the road clearly and to notify the driver easily to arrive at your exact destination.

At Linamon intersection there are lots of motorcycle riders who will send you to the entrance of Tinago falls, fare rates are 60-70 pesos per ride, maximum of 2 passengers, travel time is 10-15 minutes.

The entrance fee is 25.00 pesos as well as the life vest, bamboo rafting is 10.00 pesos, if you want to rent a table their lowest rate is 50.00 pesos. After paying they will give you a receipt and you should keep it because it will be checked by the in-charged at the resort.

From the entrance, there are 500 steps descending stairs leading to the pool. Please be careful about going down because it is a bit slippery after the rain.

Though the waterfall is far from the entrance, you can hear it already. The ambiance is peaceful, the temperature is cold, and there are many nice plants, trees, and flowers that welcome you on the way so you won't feel tired of walking.

They have complete facilities like toilets, shower, and dressing room but it's one person at a time, the good thing it's free of charge.

If you want to buy something to eat or dring there are mini-stores, they sell instant food but they don’t have cooked food so if you want to enjoy a big meal it is better for you to bring your own. You can also buy it in advance while at Linamon bus stop because there are many grocery stores, restaurant, and even “karindiria” that serves cooked food at a cheaper cost.

The water temperature is perfect for swimming so you can enjoy it until you are satisfied. You can also go cliff diving but climb at your own risk.

There are a couple of people who tried free diving here but it is not for everybody because the in-charged lifeguards won't allow unless you are complete in equipment and expert.

The operating hours are only from morning till afternoon, there is no cottage or rooms for overnight stay. As a support to the locals, you can buy a keychain, a shirt, and many different kinds of souvenir items.

This is the new concrete stairs at the opposite side of the resort, it has a waiting shed in every point and provided with trash bins so let us be responsible in keeping our garbage at the right disposal area,

From here the waterfall is already visible even from afar.
